Staff and residents are friendly. Additional services onsite such as medical care, physical therapy and gym are great. Nice selection in the onsite restaurant.

A Most Appealing Retirement Facility

Really liked the appearance (both outside and inside) of Cambridge. The location is quite nice, Residents were pleasant and seemed happy. The atmosphere inside the facility was most enjoyable. Light and airy hallways and liked the pool and exercise equipment. We think it is a place where we would be comfortable and happy,

Just getting settled

We are just getting settled in over at Cambridge Village but our experience so far has been very positive. The residents are friendly, the staff helpful and food, much to my surprise, was pretty darn good. My mother felt comfortable there right from the start. Katie, the young woman in charge of marketing there has been very helpful and everyone has tolerated my endless questions with patience and kindness. They have taken a very low key and tolerant approach to getting things officially signed and underway since my mother has been busy with doctors appointments since we arrived. At the very beginning we did seem to fall through the cracks a bit. The employee who to do my mother's orientation was out sick and my mother also had some health issues that kept us on the move to doctors and appointments. She did go through orientation just a couple of days late but her "ambassador" a fellow resident who was to show her the ropes has not been heard from since the very first day. All that being said my mother feels very positive about her experience there so far. She absolutely loves her apartment with a view of the pond and finds everything quite convenient. I especially like the focus on security and safety. The check-in button and emergency pulls are very reassuring and the entryways are secured with electronic keys. I especially like that we were given an electronic pass key right from the start so that we can come and go from her apartment without having to check in at every moment. I think this makes it feel much more like a home for her. Unfortunately, because of my mothers frailness and current leg injury she hasn't been able to take part in any of the available outings or activities. Even if her leg was healed I think we would find her reluctant to take part in the pool and gym that is available there. How I wish we could have convinced her to stay there 2 years ago when they first opened and she was in better health.

The facility is beautiful and the amenities are wonderful. But there are persistent operational issues that plague the community.

Some good, some bad.

Constant turnover of staff over the years has diminished the quality of Cambridge. I’m willing to understand that COVID put a strain on the staff, and I commend them for not having a major outbreak. Unfortunately as with many thing’s , there seems to be confusion among staff as to protocol etc. residents pay a lot of money and the level of service should represent that.

A lot of positives but there are major issues with the meal service.

I have a close relative at Cambridge Village. There is a lot to like about this place. The staff is terrific and the programming is quite good. However, there are major problems with their food service and that's what I want to address today. (And this is why I gave it only 1.5 stars for care services.) The problems seem to fall into the following categories: 1) They are constantly running out of food items that are on the menu. This is a significant source of frustration for residents. 2) They offer almost no flexibility. If you want to substitute carrots for the sweet potato that comes with your chicken, you are likely to be told that they cannot make the substitution. 3) The quality of the food is very uneven. Sometimes good and sometimes poor. 4) There are few healthy choices available. I'm really surprised and disappointed at how inattentive management is to the problems in the restaurant. Most other aspects of Cambridge Village are quite positive, but the food service has major issues.

Tour

Wonderful Place!!!! My tour was smooth and I really enjoyed the fact that there is a indoor pool. The facility was very clean. The services sound great the activities could use some work but what they offer will do. Katie sold me on the place and I appreciated her willingness and openness in answering all my questions she was great! Now the receptionist "[removed]"( on the other hand is a hateful, scornful, mouthy, disrespectful person! While waiting for Katie I saw this lady hatefully talk to people coming in and out delivering packages, etc. I saw first hand this lady back bite co-workers after they walked away. This being the first thing you see when you come in to the place is shameful. this needs to be seriously addressed! Will take this beautiful place into consideration.

Very nice and the apts are huge but I...

Very nice and the apts are huge but I am afraid dad will be nickle & dimed to death there. Also they thought it was a big deal that he wouldn't be able to cut his own food if something was served that required cutting. Not thrilled with the weekend meal schedule and they do not have transportation to Catholic services or an in house option at this point.

Dining Room

My parents do not like the food, and they complain about the wait in the dining room. They have begun preparing some of their own meals, although they pay for 3 meals per day Monday-Friday and 1 meal per day on weekends.

Food Service is Lousy and Getting Worse

I have a relative living at Cambridge Village in Wilmington. Several months ago, I wrote about the problems with the food service there. I wrote about the poor planning which resulted in the kitchen continually running out of common items including staples. I wrote about how the food was too often delivered to the tables cold. I wrote about the mediocre food quality and about the lack of healthy options. Then I bit my tongue. I felt I said my piece and that would be it. But things have not improved and today they hit a new low when, as the lunch "special," they served bologna sandwiches! Really? You are charging residents $400 per month for food and you serve up bologna sandwiches as the special. This has become an ethical issue. Cambridge Village's food service is terrible and they are about to raise rents 3%. So, here's my plan: I eat there with my relative periodically, and I'm going to write about my experiences there -- probably not each time, but frequently enough -- until there is significant improvement. I'll point out the good and the bad, but frankly, at present, there needs to be a lot of improvement. Here is one other thing that concerns me that I want to mention: Cambridge Village runs contests with prizes to incentivize its residents to vote for it in competitions for "Best Independent Living Facility" and similar competitions held by local community publications and the like. Not only is that not appropriate, but it makes me question the authenticity of many of the reviews on this and other sites. If I sound frustrated, it's because I am. It costs a great deal of money to live there, and residents have a right to expect better. One more thing: I suspect a Cambridge Village staff person will respond to this review. Great! Please specifically address the rational behind the bologna sandwich specials and the ethical considerations about incentivizing residents to vote for your facility as the "best." Thanks.
